WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?

THEME  – GROWING + CHANGING – This week focusing on plants.


AREAS OF LEARNING
Personal, social + emotional – making relationships
Communication, language + literacy – language + communication
Problem solving, reasoning + numeracy –  shape, space + measures
Knowledge and understanding of the world – exploration + investigation
Physical development – movement + space
Creative development –  developing imagination + imaginative play

PLEASE HELP – the list is in the lobby for parents able to help us with the shopping or washing for this half term.
We would appreciate large toy animals and play pet bowls, beds  etc for this weeks home corner, thank you.

ADULT LED + FOCUSED ACTIVITIES:

  • Natural collage pictures
  • Display of the growth of a seed to a tree
  • Leaf printing
  • Measuring, weighing, drawing around and looking at properties of shaped objects
  • House and garden pictures
  • Linking sounds and letters – using magnetic letters
  • Circle games

FREE PLAY ACTIVITIES:

Home corner –. Farm house and shop – digging, separating plants, selling fruit and veg, kitchen area
Creative – sunflower paintings on easel, free access to art trolley
Construction  – new large construction blocks combined with cars, farm and animals.
Various  –        quiet book corner with shape games and puzzles,
Water with natural materials, brio train track, pirate
ship and sea-life, dolls house, coloured and sparkly
water, sound and aroma blocks, green gloop with
sticks for mark-making, laptop.

OUTDOOR PLAY:

Free access to large choice bag containing creative, imaginary and physical resources and equipment
Cars and ride on toys, small climbing frame.
Large and small tyres.
Books, cushions and mark-making  in sheltered area
Choice trolley.

Sharing suggestions–  home grown plants and/or fruit and veg for possible tasting, pictures, books, stories related to plants, farms and growing, tractors, gardening tools.
Please remember that anything that interests your child and that they will enjoy sharing with the other children will be suitable.

WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK? 23.05.11

THEME  – PRINCE’S + PRINCESSE’S – THIS WEEK FOCUSING ON
George and the dragon.


AREAS OF LEARNING
Personal, social + emotional – self confidence + self-esteem
Communication, language + literacy – language for thinking
Problem solving, reasoning + numeracy –  numbers as labels and for counting
Knowledge and understanding of the world – time
Physical development – movement and space
Creative development –  exploring media and materials

PLEASE HELP – the list is in the lobby for parents able to help us with the shopping or washing for this half term.
We would appreciate newspaper and kitchen roll tubes for this weeks activities, thank you.

ADULT LED + FOCUSED ACTIVITIES:

  • Making salt dough dragon caves – looking at shape, texture, colour/shade, painting black and grey
  • Creating a paper mache dragon – looking at shape, change, body parts and features, colour.
  • Elastic band boards and tap tap.
  • Super duper sorting dinosaurs with number cards – look at colours, numbers, simple calculating, lining dinosaurs behind, side by side, in a circle etc
  • Pre-drawn dinosaur missing features e.g. legs, tail, eyes, teeth etc for children to add and decorate dinosaurs.
  • Going on a dragon hunt – using actions from the bear hunt story – acting out as a group and ending at the dragon cave.

FREE PLAY ACTIVITIES:

Home corner – Dragon cave – dark den decorated with leaves
made by the children.
Physical play –balancing beams + cones making a track for larger
toy vehicles – look at up/down, in/out, round and
round.
Various –        quiet book corner with shape games and puzzles,
Sand and letter shapes, large construction blocks
with cars, animals, dinosaurs, and wooden brio,
programmable toys, prints and patterns in paint
using vehicles, dinosaurs and marbles, choice
trolley.

OUTDOOR PLAY:

Free access to large choice bag containing creative, imaginary and physical resources and equipment
Using material to create a second dragon cave and extend indoor play outdoors
Cars and ride on toys, small climbing frame.
Sand in tray
Large and small tyres.
Books, cushions and mark-making  in sheltered area

Sharing suggestions–  castle, knight and dragon toys and clothes, stories with dragon’s, items related to St George and St george’s flag.
Please remember that anything that interests your child and that they will enjoy sharing with the other children will be suitable.

Knowledge and understanding of the world – communities
Physical development – health + bodily awareness
Creative development –  creating music + dance

PLEASE HELP –

We will be recycling/swapping toys, if your child donates an unwanted toy/game they will be able to select another from our recycling area, thank you for your support as we discuss the importance of minimising rubbish.

We would like to increase our selection of natural and sensory materials please, shells, bark, pebbles, sandpaper, soft and squashy materials and objects.

ADULT LED + FOCUSED ACTIVITIES:

  • Growing our own bean plants
  • Creating our own 10 green bottles and poster using recyclable materials
  • Creating 3D modelled robots
  • Building and playing with marble run

FREE PLAY ACTIVITIES:

Home corner –garden centre, selling gardening equipment, plants
and flowers, pricing them, till, money and receipts
Physical play – small rainbow parachute with stars for balancing,
catching etc.
Various  –        painting flowers, textured collage, cars + garage,
Exploring new play foam, building area with tools,
stepladder and bricks, using scissors.

OUTDOOR PLAY:

  • Free access to large choice bag containing creative, imaginary and physical resources and equipment
  • Musical instruments.
  • Soil in tuft spot with farm tractors
  • Paintbrushes and water.
  • Cars and ride on toys, small climbing frame.

Sharing suggestions- anything to do with gardening and gardening equipment, photographs of playing in the garden, home grown plants etc.  Please remember that anything that interests your child and that they will enjoy sharing with the other children will be suitable.

March 2011 Spring Newsletter

OWLS CLUB:

As you may be aware during the summer term we run a club for the children moving on to school in September – the owls club, from 1.30 – 3pm.  Due to the higher numbers this year we are hoping to run this on 3 afternoons a week – days to be confirmed.  To ensure all children interested have the opportunity to join the club, we will ask that you select a maximum of 2 afternoons for your child too join, would you please let Tina know if you would like to put your child down and how many afternoons for.  Thank you.

PARKING:

We appreciate that parking is difficult on church lane, particularly with the temporary loss of our driveway, however there have been complaints from nearby residents who unfortunately have been unable to access their own properties so please take care when parking and park around the green when possible, thank you.

SPRING TERM ENDS  –  Fri 8th April

SUMMER TERM BEGINS – Weds 27th April.

THEME  – WORLD BOOK DAY


MAIN AREA OF LEARNING   –  PHYSICAL

PLEASE HELP –

  • We would like to invite somebody who sells books to come in on world book day – Thurs 3rd, to sell books to the children and families at 12.30 and 1.30 pm.
  • We would like resources for example car manuals for our garage role play area in the garden.
  • We would also like to increase our selection of natural and sensory materials please, shells, bark, pebbles, sandpaper, soft and squashy materials and objects.

ADULT LED + FOCUSED ACTIVITIES:

  • Completing – My First Poem with key person
  • Turn taking game – the Hungry Caterpillar
  • Letter and number magnets and magnet boards
  • Puzzles including story related – the gruffalo, the hungry caterpillar, bob the builder and nursery rhyme
  • Cutting and collage using old magazines and cards

FREE PLAY ACTIVITIES:

Home corner – Library, borrowing and lending books, making and laminating our own library cards, stamping
Tactile play –    water and plastic bottles, laminated pictures of story characters to decorate with play dough
Physical play – balancing beams, bikes and trikes, free outdoor play
Creative play –free access to easel, creating our own story books, decorating a large gruffalo for the display
Small world –   castle and fairy tale house, wooden storycharacters, Disney characters and princesses

OUTDOOR PLAY:

Free access to large choice bag containing creative, imaginary and physical resources and equipment
Choice trolley – containing play cleaning equipment, cars and road mat, and chalk boards with chalks
Garage to repair cars – tools, car parts, tyres, clipboards and mark-making tools, car manuels and leaflets
Bikes and trikes

SPECIAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES – WE WILL BE TRYING TO HOLD A BOOK SALE ON THURSDAY AT 12.30 AND 1.30PM IN AID OF WORLD BOOK DAY.

OUR RECYCLING STATION THIS WEEK WILL BE SOLELY TO RECYCLE GOOD QUALITY BOOKS – SELECTING ANOTHER IN EXCHANGE.
