Our Pre-School aims to provide a warm, welcoming and friendly environment. Sessions are held in a spacious village hall and offer a wide variety of structured and free play activities.
The outside play area is securely fenced and has a sheltered area. There is a small digging and planting garden where children can grow their own flowers and vegetables.
With our ethos of ‘learning through play’ at the heart of our practice, we use the EYFS Curriculum, children’s interests, parent and carers input and themes and special events, to plan and implement lively, varied, fun and stimulating activities and experiences for the children.
We ensure by providing a balance of child-led, and adult-guided play and activities that the children are supported to develop important social and self-help skills, as well as being challenged and extended in preparation for school life.
Therfield Village Pre-School offers care and education for children aged 2 years to school age. Our most recent Ofsted inspection, in November 2015, awarded us with an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’ in all inspected areas. Observations from the inspector record that ‘The quality of teaching is outstanding’, ‘…staff use highly innovative teaching methods to introduce children to planned activities for the day to aid their understanding’. ‘A positive community spirit runs throughout this Pre-School’ and ‘children are very happy and demonstrate that they feel exceptionally secure and confident in their care’. The report further states that ‘excellent settling-in arrangements help children to make a very smooth move from home to Pre-School’. The Pre-School has also been awarded the Herts Quality Standards kitemark in 2013.
